Fun Ways to Personalise Your Desk Space at Home

Working from home can become dull over time, even if it’s your usual habitat. You’re stuck staring at the same screen and wall for hours at a time.

If working from home isn’t your regular routine, you’ve maybe not given your workspace much thought. And even if it is, we don’t always think about how our work environment can affect how we feel about what we do.

To help you transform your desk and home office workspace, let’s bring some colour and personality to it. Here’s how.

Add a noticeboard or pegboard

Sometimes all you need is the right location to house some of your little treasures, moments, and photographs. We all have mementos like photos, ticket stubs, and prints that we’d love to see more of – so put them front and centre near your desk.

I recently bought a wire mesh board and stand from Block Design and I love it so much. It’s the perfect solution for if you’re renting or don’t want to fix your board to a wall. I have mine leaning against a wall on my sideboard, filled with photos and my positivity cards from Mantel.

Print and display your favourite photos

There’s nothing I love more than looking over and seeing photos of my kids smiling, the beach, or our adventures. Displaying your favourite photos can make your home office space feel so much more personal and uplifting.

I got the Canon Selphy photo printer for Christmas and it’s perfect for this. You simply connect it to the WiFi, open up your phone, and send photos to print on it. It takes moments and you end up with lovely photos you can display all around your home.

Display inspirational note cards

You can’t go wrong with a reminder of how great you are, how you’re about to achieve big things, or why what you do matters. For that reason, I think investing in a handful of inspirational note cards is the way to go.

I mentioned my positivity cards above, and I think they’re a lovely option if you want a little reminder to stay positive, present, and encouraged. You could also look for bigger quote prints or note cards with a positive quote on them to inspire you.

Find a cute coaster for your mug

I’m all about having a favourite mug, and we have a kitchen cupboard downstairs full of them. They’re almost a guilty pleasure. But why stop there, when you could also have a beautiful coaster to bring some colour to your desk.

On my desk I have a simple, monochrome coaster that I picked up at Asda. It’s part of a multi pack – which is a good thing, as my youngest always steals and hides them away! If you don’t have a mini kid thief you could opt for something more expensive or in a material like ceramic.

Give your favourite plant a new home

There’s something really calming about having plants in your home office space or by your desk. They don’t even have to be real – and for most of us with a whole lot of juggling to do, fake ones last better.

I’ve actually just moved some of my fake plants from my office up here down to the lounge, so I’ll need to look for a new plant or two to add some colour back to my sideboard. If you’re on the lookout too, IKEA and Sainsburys are great places to find affordable faux plants.

Add some personal flair to your desk space today

Your desk and home office workspace doesn’t have to feel uninspiring. Even if it’s your temporary workspace, you can transform it into a relaxing or focused environment with a few small changes. Bring in your favourite photos, add a positive quote, or invest in a fake plant or two to brighten up your space.
