Those of us who are lucky enough to own a garage often don’t put them to good use. In fact, garages often end up becoming nothing more than a dumping ground for clutter.
There could be many great ways of putting this space to better use. You could use it for its original intention – you could store your car in it. Alternatively, you could look into other creative ways of repurposing it…
Workshop
When it comes to DIY projects, it can be useful to have a workshop space. A garage could be the perfect space for setting up a workshop – and you may not even have to invest in many improvements. Things you may want to look into include buying a workbench, installing electrics and possibly adding an extractor fan for ventilation.
Guest bedroom
A garage could be turned into an extra bedroom. This is likely to increase the value of your home, while giving you extra private space for a friend or family member to stay. A garage bedroom could even house a lodger. Just make sure that your garage meets all the requirements to be legally classified as a bedroom.
Home office
If you currently work from home, you could consider turning your garage into a home office. If your garage is separated from the house, this could help to give a greater sense of separation between your work life and personal life.
Library
Love books? A garage could be turned into your own private library for you to store your collection. It could be a great place to retreat to when you want to read in peace.
Walk in wardrobe
Garages can also make great walk in wardrobes. If your bedroom is currently overflowing with clothes, this could be a great way to add space to your bedroom, while finding a more efficient way to organize your clothes.
Private bar
Ever wanted to have your own private bar? A garage could be turned into a cosy bar space with seating and even a pool table. It could be great for hosting parties or simply relaxing.
Home gym
Save the need to pay for a gym subscription by setting up your own home gym. You can personalise the space with all the equipment you need. It could even be used as a studio for things like yoga, boxing or dance.
Second bathroom
If you’ve only got one bathroom in your home and you often get queues, you could consider turning your garage into a second bathroom. You could find that this space is even larger than your current bathroom, allowing you to incorporate more luxury features.
Home spa
On the topic of luxury bathrooms, you could even turn your garage into a private home spa. You could install a hot tub and a sauna here and use it as a space for retreating when you want to relax.
Entertainment room
A garage could be transformed into a second living space used purely for entertainment. It could be a gaming space or it could contain equipment like a ping pong table. Alternatively, it could be turned into a home cinema for movie nights.
